Cathal Brugha representatives were to the fore at Saturday nights Swim Ireland Awards evening….

Stio McMahon Johnny Donnelly (MVP), Jonathan Kirkand Orla Monaghan were awarded Water Polo All Star status at the Swim Ireland 2015 Awards dinner at CityWest in Dublin on Saturday evening (Johnny Kirk & Johnny Donnelly were unavailable to attend). Also honoured was Brugha legend Liam Goss who received the outgoing President's prize for his outstanding service to the sport and all are pictured below with Cathal Brugha’s Gerry O’Neill (Ireland Water Polo President).  were also honoured with All Star Awards but were unavailable to attend the Swim Ireland Awards evening.

As outgoing Swim Ireland President, Anne McAdam (nee McCann) had an opportunity to nominate a person who had positively contributed to her lifetimes participation in aquatics and Anne chose Liam. Anne made a great speech at the Awards evening, reflecting on her early years when her dad, the late Joe McCann, had managed the Falls Baths, during which time her family had lived on the property. Anne spoke of how Liam had encouraged her, and many other young Brugha kids, to get involved in swimming and water polo. Unsurprisingly, Anne’s speech and Liams receipt of the President’s Award, received a standing ovation from everyone in attendance.

Some years ago, when the old Falls Baths & Anne’s home was being demolished, Liam collected a brick from the rubble and had kept it ever since. Liam chose the occasion of his presentation at the Swim Ireland Awards Evening, to make a presentation to Anne (McCann) when he gave her his brick; all clean & polished and suitably inscribed as a present to Anne, for her to keep as a memento of her days when she and her family lived at the Falls Baths.

….typical Liam, always thinking of someone else!

One in a million!
